For nearly six decades, Dr. Douge Barthelemy has specialized in medical care to thousands of low-income women and children in Gary, Indiana.
“I feel like all kids deserve the highest quality healthcare,” said Dr. Barthelemy.
Before becoming one of the top pediatricians in the Chicagoland/Northwest Indiana, Dr. Barthelemy was born and raised in Haiti. While there, Barthelemy found his passion for doctoring after experiencing the loss of his twin siblings to Malaria.
Dr. Barthelemy graduated from the University of D’Etat D’Haiti. In 1963, after practicing in Haiti for two years, he then went on to complete his residency in Canada, then to the Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
“In 1966, I graduated as a Pediatrician and moved to the Chicagoland area,” said Barthelemy. “By 1968, I obtained my license to practice in Indiana.”
Once Barthelemy was approved to practice in Indiana, he went on to offer his services to a clinic in Gary.
“After two years practicing in Gary, I open my own practice in a city I love,” Barthelemy noted.
“I love Gary, it’s my Bedrock,” Barthelemy explained. “I’ve seen these kids grow up and become professionals, and cared for many generations of patients.”
Fast forward more than 40 years, Barthelemy’s commitment to helping children is stronger than ever. In 2016, Dr. Barthelemy brought his practice to Marram Health Center in Gary.
“I joined the Marram Health Center to ensure when my time comes and I do retire, my patient's health will have a place guaranteed,”
