Get Ahead of Post-Surgery Recovery with Trilogy Services’ Prehab Plan

avalonspringscover. Here is the typical scenario: A man learns he needs a hip replacement, so he schedules the surgery for the following weekend. Leading up to it, he is told by his doctor his body will be weakened and he will need rehabilitation services to help him get back into shape.

When surgery day comes and all goes well, the doctor hands him a list of possible rehab facilities he can temporarily live at while he undergoes extensive rehab. However, his top three rehab choices near his home are booked and instead, he decides to go home, where his family offers their help.

Months go by, and the man’s hip is nowhere close to being healed due to not receiving the best rehab he could have received.

“It is hard to help people at home,” said Kelley Dooley, the Community Service Representative.

Life gets in the way and rehab is done at a minimum. Now, the man is looking for help.

Once surgery is set on your plate, Dooley recommends adding the rehab program as soon as possible, guaranteeing you a room, a great rehab program, and stress-less transition back to health.

Avalon Springs Health Campus, Cedar Creek Health Campus, and Spring Mill Health Campus are the three Northwest Indiana campuses of Trilogy Health Services, LLC and each promotes a unique, special service to the community, called "prehab." Prehab means calling Dooley at the facility as soon as you are scheduled for surgery and requesting a bed once you are out of the hospital.

“When you are prescheduled for surgery, you can come to Trilogy's facilities and identify with us,” he said. “We can get your information ready ahead of the surgery for your stay at Avalon, so when you are ready to start therapy you already have a spot here.”

The campuses offer short and long term care, skilled nursing services, memory, respite, and transitional care, and adult day services, similar to other assisted living homes. However, the ability to look ahead, get a room ready, and take care of all insurance and other paperwork before the surgery, is a service Dooley has not seen offered anywhere else.

“It is hard to get in here,” he admitted. “As many people know, it is hard to get into these places and the Avalon Springs campus is pretty full.”

With this service, you can have the surgery and while at the hospital, tell the doctors and staff you’re a “VIP”, so that you can skip the possibility of not getting into a facility right away, or not into your preferred facility.

Then, after surgery, a professional will visit you at the hospital and assist you during the transition phase to the facility. You can receive physical, occupational, and speech therapy, whatever is required from the doctor.

“It doesn’t matter how long they are staying or for whatever reason as long as they are making progress,” Dooley explained. “If in therapy, they are making progress and start to level off, then we start talking about discharging.”

Surgery is stressful and getting back to your feet is difficult and strenuous, so who needs more stress about where you’re going to live? With Trilogy Services’ prehab, the pre-registration for a room is just one more thing to have done to make the entire process easier.

“Getting ahead and pre-scheduling is for your benefit,” Dooley said.

While at the facility, residents can also relax with fine dining options, engaging activities and events, and friendly staff and comprehensive nursing services.

The staff wants you to enjoy your time at Avalon Springs, but it is up to you to make sure you have a room!
