Indiana University Northwest and the Office of Athletics will host its 2015 RedHawks' Summer Basketball Camp for Kids July 13-16. The four-day camp is open to all boys and girls ages 6 to 18.
The camp will be separated into two age groups offering more age-appropriate instruction. From 8:30 until 11:30 a.m., athletes aged 6 to 12 will meet; and from 1 until 4 p.m., athletes aged 13 to 18 will meet.
The RedHawks Basketball Camp provides an in-depth basketball experience emphasizing fundamentals and sportsmanship helping campers reach their full potential. The camp format is designed for children of all levels and experience. Children are grouped by age and ability.
The camp's daily program will feature skill work, team-building exercises and drills, league games, skill competitions, and guest speakers. RedHawks basketball players and coaches will host the camp's daily activities.
The skills camp, for athletes aged 13 to 18, will specifically provide campers with tips on how to improve at the middle or high school levels. Campers will be instructed through a variety of skill development stations specifically focused on ball handling, passing, shooting and defensive techniques.
The camp's final day will feature a team tournament and an awards ceremony, and parents are welcome to attend. Throughout the program, instructors will address such topics as teamwork, how to set and achieve goals, the importance of education, and good nutrition.
The camp takes place at the IU Northwest Savannah Center Gymnasium, located just one-half mile south of I-80/94 at 3400 Broadway in Gary, Ind.
Registration is $60 per child and $50 for each additional child from the same family. Each camp participant will receive a RedHawks’ Camp T-shirt and a gift at the end of the week.
